Work Work Work *yawn*

For the last 6 months I have found myself to be really independent as I have a job and have my own money and don’t have to rely on people giving me money to spend. You’re probably thinking that sounds really stupid, and to be honest it sounds pretty stupid in my head also. Before having this job, I was relying on other people to give me money so I could go out and buy that top I wanted or a pair of shoes. But it’s not only the independene I am loving, but the feeling I have when I look in my bank account and realise that the money I have in there is the money I have earnt for myself and it is mine fair and square – I have worked for it.

My job consists of working during the holidays, which is a bit unusual as most people work during the week after school or on Saturdays and Sundays. If you haven’t already worked it out, I work with kids at a Holiday Programme. For me, working with the holiday programme means having to be at work at 7.30 in the morning and working until later on in the evening. Although having to be at work at 7.30 is a disadvantage, it is all worth it when you see the kids smiles on their faces as you greet them at the door. But not everyone has a smile on their face at 7.30, buut that is what us staff members are there for – to put smiles on the kids face, help them and guide them.

One of the reasons I love my job is because we get to act like little kids again. Working with kids can sometimes be a drag and I don’t always feel up to it, but I enjoy it. Working with kids is such an experience as I can act like a total retard! ( I get it from my auntie.) We have a range of ages that come to holiday programme, from 5 up to 12. I think this is a good age group as most of the time, we get the older kids to help the younger ones with some of our activities we do, as well as the staff helping as well.

I also find myself to be very lucky with this job, as my friends are looking for jobs and often when they find out I have a job, I often get told ‘You’re soo lucky!’ and I always respond with ‘I know.’ When I wake up and get myself ready for work, I don’t think of it as going to work because I don’t find myself working, I find it as something I enjoy doing and having fun with it. So, when I think about, it’s like getting paid for something you enjoy, which in my opinion isn’t work.

I am happy with my job, and I find myself lucky to do so as not a lot of people are happy with their jobs and struggle to get out of bed to go to work. But I think I am one of the lucky ones to find something I enjoy and call it a job. I hope you all have jobs you enjoy and if not, maybe you should think about finding something that inspires you and not call it a job but something you want to do for the rest of your life.

Where is time going :O

If you didn’t already know, I’m in year 11 at college ( I don’t know what form that is for those of you who go by forms) and we have just finished our 2 week holiday and are now in the second week of term 3. The other day at school I was thinking to myself ‘Wow, where has this year gone?’ I can’t believe that we are already into term 3 of the year! Because I am now classified as a senior student of college, we get time off school to study for our end of year NCEA exams :L Thinking about this made me realise that senior students (myself included) only have 13 school weeks left of this year! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing?!

Us big kids at school leave in early November (I think) to study for our exams. We study for weeks and only come into school when we have an exam and then leave again. This is scaring me just a tad :/ For the rest of the school (turds as they are formally known) stay at school and study for their exams and they sit them in late November, early December. This is my first year in NCEA and it’s terrifying. By the end of the year, we have to have gained the minimun amount of credits which is 80 in order to pass Level 1. You can get these credits internally (throughout the year) and also externally (at the end of the year). It is so much easier to try and get as many credits as you can during the year so you don’t have that pressure to get the credits at the end of the year.

Being in Year 11 really has opened my eyes. There is that pressure you have where you can’t fail anything because otherwise you’ll miss out on credits you need. I know that Maths isn’t my strong subject – I mean I have come to terms with myself that I suck at maths BUT in saying that, I have passed everything in Maths this year so far and I’m not stopping there! So far this year, I think I am positive I have only failed one thing this year that was worth credits and everything else that has been thrown at me, I have passed.

So, if your in my situation at the moment or you have a child entering the big wide world of college, my biggest piece of advice I could give you  is to have a go at everything offered to you, keep your head down and do the best you can! And if you’re in your first year of NCEA, try your hardest not to fail anything and you will be fine. The last piece of advice that is the MOST important to entering college is to study!!

Happy studying everyone!

Well from that title you didn't really get ANY hints on what the hell this review is on lol... it's good to keep you guessing ha ha ha.  This week I decided to review a place we sat down to eat while on my recent stop into Auckland New Zealand.  In the short time I was there (3 days) I covered a bit and I'm not going to jam it into one post, so (

Nooo, I’m gunna fall off!

Today, it was our oppurtunity to have a day full of fun and excitement, as my school got to go to Rainbows End! It is a common day at my school called ‘Activities Day’, where the year 9′s and the year 10′s get a choice of where to go for the day. There is a range of options involved, including: Goats Island, Parakai Hot Pools, The Zoo, Auckland’s Art Gallery and a few more. There are also a couple of stay at school options, this includes a day at school playing sports then later on in the day a swim in the pool and then a sausage sizzle and a movie. I chose Rainbows End if you already didn’t figure it out.

When I woke up in the morning, it was raining! I wasn’t that worried about not going, this was because we were told we would be going regardless of the weather. But going to Rainbows End while raining is not the best of fun. Luckily, while we were on our way, it stopped raining and then after about the first or second ride, the sun came out and it was time to slip, slop, slap!

The first ride we went on was the pirate ship, which is the closest to the enterance anyway. If you haven’t been to Rainbow’s End before, it is just a big pirate ship (hence the name), which rocks back and forth and it gets higher and higher. Our second choice was the Fear Fall! When we got up the top I didn’t realise it was that high (maybe because I haven’t been there in a while). While on the Fear Fall, I had one friend each side of me so I was in the middle. We were talking while waiting up the top for it to drop, we knew it would drop any minute so we were expecting it. It was awesome! :D

We managed to go on all the rides we wanted to. The down side of it all I think was that there were other schools there. So we had to wait awhile in the lines for the rides. The other schools there were younger than us, so any ride we were on, they managed to be on too because there were alot of them! We started to get pissed off with the girls screaming after awhile.

The last time I was at Rainbow’s End was awhile ago. In that time I haven’t been there they had built a new ride called ‘The Invader’. At first I was a abit hesitant to go on it but after the first time we went on it, I loved it and wanted to go on it again! It is in a shape of a alien ship almost and it goes up and down and around this windy track. The seats that you sit on are in the shape of a motorbike seat but you get handle bars and you get locked in. You get locked in so tight, you can hardly breath!

Overall, the day was an awesome day out and I would love to do it again sometime very soon.
See you very shortly I hope Rainbow’s End!

Did I used to love you?

I used to think there would only mainly be one person in your life that you would love. I’ve learned otherwise. I know that there are others in my life that I love like my Auntie Ree and my dog but there is only one person meant for the type of love I’m talking about! I’ve learnt lately that when people are taken from you that you love, it’s very hard to refill that hole that is left in your heart. I learnt this the hard way. To be honest, I wish love was like you see it on the movies, the girl always gets the guy she wants. But, back into reality… I always find it hard to express my feelings.

When I was in intermediate, I had my crushes and my moments, but now I seem to start to understand as I get older, relationships start to get more serious and intimate! Though, people my age, when asked if they are in love or have been give you a straight up answer of, “No, I’m only 14!” But to be honest, I don’t think that many people are telling the truth when they are asked that question, maybe it’s because of their age or maybe it’s because they want to fit in, I don’t know.

What I would like to know is, how many times can you be in love, or fall in love if you like. Some people I know have married their college sweethearts and been with them for most of their life, but others have been in love many times before they actually marry the one they love. Some of you might be thinking or asking yourself why I am writing on this topic, well it is because in the past I have struggled with this particular “subject” and I believe there are going to be many more times where I have my ups and downs.

Well on the bright side, I am still young (those of you who don’t know me, I am still in my teenage years), and I will have many more experiences in this department of life. Wish me luck!

A Special Friend…

Well, some people would consider their best friends and their special friends the same thing – but not me!A best friend to me is someone you share your secrets with, get into trouble with, eat junk food together and staying up late to talk. However, a special friend is someone different. It may be a relative, family friend or just someone who you connect with – in my case, my special friend is my Granddad.

On the 30th of May 2011, my special friend passed away in Auckland City Hospital. This is was due to him having a heart opperation and a triple bypass. But unfortunatley these things go wrong and my special friend was one of the people who had bad luck. After going into heart surgery, he was perfectly fine and put into ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Half an hour had passed by and complications had occured, and it all went down hill from there.

My special friend was the person I learnt most of life’s lessson’s off. He was the person I admired and looked up to since the day I could talk. When I was little he used to spoil me rotten, and til this very day is still doing it! I remember one Christmas when he asked me what I wanted, and knowing me I named one of the most expensive things and told him a laptop. Now before you jump to conclusions, I was actually being sarcastic because I knew he wouldn’t get one. On Christmas Day, my mum and I went down to see him and so I could open the rest of my presents that he had for me under his christmas tree. I had opened every one, except for one big one siiting in the corner. But I wasn’t allowed to open it until my Uncle got home. Not knowing what it was I ripped into it, with all eyes staring at me. And to my surprise it was a laptop!!

That was one of the things about My Speical Friend, was that still years passing by, he was still full of surprises! That was just one of the good things he was. He was caring, funny, loud, intelligent, loved a good fist fight and of course loving.

Ever since I was a baby and could remember, he would do his best to keep me happy, protect me, laugh with me and and always give his best. Along with all this, he was a fantastic cook and baker! He made the best bacon butties ever, and his bread was amazing.

Well Gung Gung, you are so missed by your loving family and friends, but you will never ever be forgotten. But now the fighting is over and you can rest now! Say hi to Nanna for me.

I love you soo much Gung Gung
RIP

There’s a First Time For Everything!

Acouple of weekends ago, I was out in Swanson near by Hendersen. My friend invited me to celebrate her 14th birthday. Its quite funny actually because I haven’t had a proper “birthday party” for a while and kinda forgot what it felt like. Anyway I got there close to about 6 or alittle after. My friend, I’ll call her Lama, had about 6 maybe 7 other people sitting her lounge waiting for the time to fly by. I meeted and greeted everyone and we all sat down, got into teams and played sing star. After I think two songs we got bored and turned it off. By then dinner was ready, we had hamburgers and chips and afterwards, a choc bar icecream.
At 7 we all jumped into two different cars and were on our way to Ice Skating! I thought Ice Skating would be kinda easy and I would get the hang of it not straight away but eventually. When we got there and I first put my feet in the shoes, I thought this wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought it might be! This was my first time going Ice Skating, it was fun but sooo hard!
We spent 3 and a half hours in the ice rink and man were my feet sore! The first time I had been Ice Skating and I only fell over once in three and a half hours!! Whilst being on the ice, I got to know some people better. For most of the three and a half hours I spent most of it dragging myself with my hands along the side railing, just going around and around and around. My friend ‘Lama’ then saw me dragging myself around the edge of the rink and took both of my hands and took my close into the middle, I was freaked out! I was soon happily reunited with my best friend – the wall!

‘Lama’ then left me and my best friend alone, ha ha ha. Soon later though, she was back with another friend. They both grabbed one of my hands each and took me through the middle and around – away from the wall :( Towards the end of the three and a half hours of Ice Skating I got the hang of it. But I was pretty happy to get off the ice and into my normal sized shoes and onto the concrete. After the three and a half hours of skating, most of the friends went home. Only two of us slept over at ‘Lama’s', not including her.

It was a really fun night. Watching movies til after midnight, eating chocolate in bed, playing truth or dare, talking and taking photos. Probably one of the best weekends I have had in acouple of weeks!

My Bestest Friend (:

To me, a best friend is soo important in anyones life and especially in mine. My best friend is very important in my life as I have no siblings and she is the closest thing I have to a sister. The one thing I hate about having a best friend are the arguments that come with it. Best friend arguements – in my opinion are the most stressful. That obviously doesn’t count if your married – thats not my case though.
I have known my best friend since I was inbetween 3 & 6 months old. We first met at coffee club where our parents introduced us.

Over the past 15 years we have grown and grown to know each other more and more. Over the years there has been arguments, enjoyment, blood, sweat and tears but all good memories. My best friend and I have attended the same schools together all the way from coffee club to primary, intermediate and college. We listen to the same music, eat and enjoy the same foods and participate and enjoy most sports and activities. It even goes as crazy liking the same boys! We were born 6 days apart which classifies us both as scorpios. It was quite funny one year as my best friend had her birthday at Valentines and 6 days later I had mine at Valentines. That next night we both weren’t feeling too flash!

At school my best friend and I are quite popular girls and have heaps of friends. But at school, whenever we get the chance we hang out, including EVERY morning tea and lunch.
Every Friday night after school, my best friend would come home with me and we’d pack my bags to go and stay the night at her house. We had some great memories together, some of them were playing sims together (a computer game), walks to the dairy to buy V’s (the energy drink) and getting high and listening to music really loud and dancing and singing along.

To me, this is why its important to have a best friend in your life, someone who you can create memories with, so when your older you can look back and think of the great times. Having a best friend – someone important in you life other than a boyfriend or husband is not only about the great times and memories though. No, it’s about trust and honestly and believing. These are some of the things I have learnt whilst being part of a great friendship.

When you think you find this best friend or if you have found her, him or them. Take my advice and hang on to them and don’t let go. You’ll regret it!

Typical Aunties…

From the beginning of May I was in the company of my favourite Auntie Ree. She flew in from Sydney Australia to Auckland New Zealand on the 5th of May. I was blessed with the visit of Ree because her Dad (my grandad) was getting transported from North Shore Hospital to Auckland City Hospital for a serious opperation. And yes, this was without Sweetums! Even though Ree was here for quite a serious matter, me and her had some really fun times. One of the good memories was when I was staying there with her and my uncle and on a Saturday morning and at 7am in the morning she came in to my room, turned the light on and started pulling the blankets off me that were on top of me. Because I didn’t budge she ripped the sheets out from under me, threw all the blankets and sheets onto the floor and told me in exact words “C’mon, hurry up and make your bed!” At the time it wasn’t very funny but when I look back I seem to ‘Laugh out loud’.

Another one would be going to the mall together. Now that seems pretty funny to me because I’m a teenager who doesn’t enjoy shopping and going to the mall that often. But my Auntie Ree loves her shopping. So knowing her, she took me to the mall and convinced me to buy a new wallet. Now I found a wallet that I liked. Purple, shiny, pretty and in fashion, so I bought it. Another thing you may not know is that when it comes to money, I am really stubborn. When I don’t have to spend my money, I don’t and when I have to spend my money, well I don’t he he he! Once I got my new wallet I found myself wanting to spend my money :O

And once again Ree and I made another great great trip to the mall and yes, I spent more of my beloved money! This time round, Ree and I went shopping for a new belt and I found a great one in the warehouse that I think really suits me. After going belt shopping Ree, Chris and I went to ‘The Good Guys’ to see if they had one of those electronic thingys ha ha ha. After doing all that shopping it made us hungry so we went to Denny’s for lunch.

Those are just some of the memories Ree and I had together during the month and a half she was here!
